Yesterday we skipped spring and went straight to summer — any hotter and the chickens would’ve been laying hard-boiled eggs. Which didn’t thrill me exactly — I like more temperate climes — but we’re back in the teens today so it’s all good. Here’s a quick five things to start us off on a good foot this week.ย
1. Hot weather calls for cool salads, so last night I tried the avocado strawberry caprese salad from the new Love & Lemons Cookbook. Love the strawberries and tomatoes with fresh basil. I’ll be trying a few more recipes from the book this week.
2. Book surprises are the best surprises! This one came Friday from Penguin Random House Canada. (In case you’re reading this on your phone and can’t see, it’s The Minimalist Baker’s Everyday Cooking: 101 Entirely Plant-Based, Mostly Gluten-Free, Easy and Delicious Recipes.) Stay tuned for a review in a couple of weeks.
3. Soon we’ll be planting herbs like we did last spring. This year we’ll do some chamomile ย for the bees. (Bee-cause they love it!) Do you plant herbs? Flowers? Vegetables too? How does your garden grow?
4. My favourite new print from Minted for an upcoming post. It’s Slow Zebra by Nikkol Christiansen. I can’t wait to show you the rest! That post won’t be up until May because I’m waiting for a related book to come out, but I’ll have another fun Minted post and giveaway for you before then.
5. Are you following me on Instagram? I’ve got a fab giveaway for Canadian and U.S. followers coming up in a couple of weeks that you won’t want to miss!
Thanks for reading, everybody! Talk to you again very soon.
Love these 5 things! I love minted prints! We are planting a garden this next week! ๐
Haha! You had me cracking up in that intro! I want an herb garden! That would be heaven!
๐ My hubby kept last year’s herbs alive (like he does the houseplants) — was so nice just to pop outside and snip what we needed!
love all 5 things to try! I really want to have an herb garden, but I do not have a green thumb! ๐ฆ
The salad looks heavenly! I just followed you on Instagram!
Thanks so much! Wouldn’t want you to miss anything. ๐
That strawberry basil salad has my name allll over it. I need to get this cook book!
I just made another recipe from it tonight, the asian chopped cabbage salad (with all kinds of peanutty goodness). Treat yourself! It’s a beautiful book. ๐
This post made me even more excited that it’s spring!! I wish I could be more of an efficient gardener but I have a black thumb. Chamomile sounds lovely!
Thanks Lindsay! Wouldn’t it be ah-mazing to have a cutting garden for fresh flowers all summer long? I dream! (And I can only dream — black thumbs and crap soil here too.)
HAHA any hotter and the chickens would be laying hard boiled eggs, you kill me with your wit my friend โค
I want to eat every meal at your house… and there even seems to be a glass of wine there to accommodate the fresh bread and wonderful looking salad, followed by grapes as a dessert…… Yummy. And such pretty flowers !!!!! Yes sprummer is here (spring combined with summer).- more summer than spring ๐
Love the flowers! It’s the first time I’ve had hyacinth — they’re here in the kitchen where I’m writing and smell so nice, sort of like lilacs.
hi Julie! I love your five things! ๐ Hasn’t the weather made a rapid turn-around?! Your salad looks yummy, and i can’t wait to hear about another new cookbook! I would to learn about planting herbs – we had a small vegetable garden last year – with cucumbers, tomatoes, beans and peas. Have a great week!
Thanks so much Joy! ๐ Iโd love to have a garden but we canโt even grow grass. Cucumbers, tomatoes, beans AND peas โ thatโs awesome! Hope you have a great week too.โค๏ธ
