In the Company of Women by Grace Bonney + Win a copy!

Five years after her first book, Design*Sponge at Home, Grace Bonney is back with something entirely different but equally (if not even more) inspirational, In the Company of Women: Inspiration and Advice from over 100 Makers, Artists, and Entrepreneurs.  Grace interviewed influential and creative women from all ages, races, and backgrounds who have overcome obstacles to become stand-outs in their fields and shares their stories and advice on how to succeed in business. We get to see architects, tattoo artists, chefs, illustrators, and musicians in their workspaces and learn what keeps them up at night and what keeps them going, what they bombed, and what they’re most proud of. It’s an incredible resource for aspiring entrepreneurs and an inspiring window into the minds of a diverse and crazy-talented group of women.

Most of the interviews span two or three pages, and those that have only one will have you wanting more. Most of the women were new to me, but I was also happy to see profiles of several women I already admire and follow, like designer/blogger Joy Cho; writer/editor-in-chief Tavi Gevinson; baker/author Cheryl Day; interior designer/tv host Genevieve Gorder; designer/artist/author Justina Blakeney, cookbook author Julia Turshen; and artist/designer Anna Bond.

“We are trained to fit in, assimilate, and blend in. I’m always enamoured of women who overcome that.” — Janet Mock, In the Company of Women

I could easily post a dozen quotes that moved me, and I’m not even all the way through the book. The diverse group of women and stories in its pages makes it something for everyone, regardless of what stage they are in their careers. In the Company of Women would make an excellent gift for new graduates, entrepreneurs and those just getting into business, as well as makers and creatives curious to learn about trailblazers in their field.

  1. I’ve been searching for a book like this since forever! There really needs to be more like it out there and it’s a shame there isn’t.
