Five things (and a few extra things)

Thomas Allen & Son sent me Unicorn Food in exchange for an honest review; I’m partnering with Indigo and Alt on the events mentioned here; and Penguin Random House Canada sent me This Moment Is Your Life (And So Is This One) for review purposes. All opinions are my own and from the heart.

So let’s pretend I’m not writing this on a Monday, because that just seems like a weird day for a round-up. I wanted to catch you up on a few things, share some exciting events coming up, and make sure you didn’t miss out on two giveaways ending this week. But first, can we talk about this incredible Rainbow Pull-Apart Bread?

Unicorn Food final

Saturday was dreary so we put on our aprons and made our first recipe from Cayla Gallagher’s Unicorn Food: Rainbow Treats and Colorful Creations to Enjoy and Admire. (You might know Cayla from pankobunny, her wildly popular YouTube cooking show. And she’s from Toronto!) The red, orange and green dough in our rainbow loaf mushroomed above the yellow and the blue but I still think it turned out pretty fantastic. Fluffy and light, with a little sweetness from the raisins and cinnamon sugar between the layers. The book has more than 80 cakes, cookies and treats like Mini Unicorn Pies, a Naturally-Dyed Rainbow Cake, Rainbow No-Churn Ice Cream, Rainbow Bagels, and Confetti Pancakes. HELLO AMAZING! What would you make first?

June is crazy busy in a good way. Next week I’ll be sharing a sneak peek at the new Indigo Innes (3900 Innes Road, Orleans) before the store’s grand opening June 9, plus a giveaway for Indigo-lovers across the country. (YES!)

And Cathy and I are teaching a craft workshop at Indigo Pinecrest at on June 18 at 7 pm to get you Canada Day ready from head to toe! The event is for Plum Rewards members and costs $10/person or you can use $10 in Plum points, and you can register in store or by phone at (613) 596 – 3003. We would love to see you! If you’re interested and/or register, would you please let us know by indicating on the Facebook event page? (Note: The page says 7 to 8 pm but we may run a little longer, maybe to 8:30 or 9 at the very latest.)

Before that, Lily and I have a girls’ weekend planned at the Alt Hotel here in Ottawa (Cathy and I went to their 5 à 7 earlier this spring), followed by her birthday slumber party here at the house. (Did I mention our house is teeny tiny? The girls are going to be packed in like sardines!)

Cat and Maria are coming to Ottawa this summer (and maybe Mary too!) so we’ll make plans to meet at a cute coffee shop or two. (Some place IG-worthy for sure.) We’ve been chatting and supporting each other on social media for a while and I just love them to bits, so it’ll be wonderful to finally meet them all IRL! (But I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous too. You know, the usual “What if I’m not interesting/funny/smart enough? What if they don’t like me?” rabbit hole I almost always fall down when I’m meeting someone new.)

June 1 marks the start of another 30-Day Challenge at The Dailey Method, where participants try to do as many classes as they can in 30 days. I committed to 26 because I’ve done it before but eeeek! this month is especially busy so it’s going to be tough. But I got this! (I got this, right?) I love LOVE their spin classes and might even try another barre class or two. I’ll report back and let you know how it’s going!

Oh! I haven’t forgotten about 50 Ways to Draw Your Beautiful, Ordinary Life. I mentioned I’ll be doing a giveaway for the book and I still will, I’m just waiting on some images to show you a peek inside. As soon as I have those I’ll be able to get my post up. And I’d hoped to share two super cute Harry and Meghan books with you before the wedding but one hasn’t yet arrived so stay tuned for that, plus a chance to win both.

And speaking of giveaways, there’s just a few more days left to enter to win a copy of Craft the Rainbow: 40 Colorful Paper Projects from The House That Lars Built and a DYNAMITE tee from one of my favourite online shops, Cocus Pocus. The second one is open worldwide so go go!

And what else? When I’m not in my jammies I’m wearing this dress from Old Navy (I have the navy and the black and white striped) and these eyelet overalls from Aerie. I’ve got this song playing on repeat; this book at the top of my TBR pile, and this stockpiled in the freezer for a healthy treat any time of day.

Now tell me about you! What’s on the horizon that you’re excited about? What are you reading and listening to? You know I love hearing from you so spill the beans!

You’re too kind, Mary! (But don’t stop, lol.) Your pictures and blog posts always inspire me and I’m so glad you’re not too far away so we can meet. Looking forward to sharing a cup of tea with you one day! (Well we can each have our own cup of tea. You know what I mean. 😀)

those overalls are amazing and I so hope I can swing the 18th. I am dog sitting that week but as long as Kent is home I will be there for you. Sounds like you are having a blast/ And IRL you are totally witty and funny and interetsing, as well as kind and generous

Awwww, thank you Linda! You’re making me blush. And right back at you! 😘❤️💕 We would love LOVE to have you there and the craft is SO YOU!! I know you’ll try your best to make it (and even if you can’t it’s wonderful to have your support!!) xoxo

Wow! You’ve got a lot going on! I’d so love to attend your craft workshop even though I’m the world’s least crafty person.

Love love love that dress. I may have to give it a try!

I’m reading The Amateurs by Liz Harmer and loving it. She’s from Hamilton and is the sister of a friend and part of it takes place here which is so cool. It’s a dystopian type of book, but maybe it’s actuality utopia… I’ll let you know what I think when I’m done but so far the writing is FANTASTIC. before this I read “The Home for Unwanted Girls” and really liked it.

    1. try small things

I wish you could come too! It’s going to be very chill. No need to be super crafty. And the dress is lovely! I hate my arms so I love the three-quarter sleeves (I was going to phrase that in a less negative way but really, thems the truth!) and it’s such a flattering shape. “Maybe it’s actually utopia” ha ha. So glad you’re loving it! Do you have another book already lined up to read next?

      1. Jennifer Morse

How tall are you and how far down does the dress come on your legs? Weird question, I know. But I’m 5’1” and hate my legs so I would want it to be at least mid-calf. And because I’m so short it probably would be. Like ankle pants are the perfect length for me and capris are ankle pants hahaha!

I’m finally going to read The Nightingale next! Have you read it?

  6. Cat Forsley

    SO Beautiful

      1. Cat Forsley

come to my parents SPA lol xxx 400 JAMS plus !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Joy Mills (@Jemrah1)

omg omg omg omg…. can I come too?!?!

    1. try small things

To the June 18 workshop! Yes please! We’d love you to come!!! And maybe you’d like to bring your daughter? When you register, we just need you to give your first and second choice of shoe size (small = 5/6; med = 7/8; large = 9/10 and xl = 11/12). xoxo
