Boxes, books and other small things for homebodies

I’ve got 99 problems but online shopping ain’t one: Gourmet Trading’s 800+ products now available online. See what we tried + A giveaway!

Gourmet Trading sent me a selection of products to try in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own and from the heart.ย

If you follow me on social media (and if you don’t HELLO, PRIORITIES PEOPLE!!) you know that I’ve been trying some more products from Gourmet Trading over the past couple of weeks. The Canadian specialty foods importer and distributor first reached out last year and got in touch again recently when they launched their new online store. Now everything I’ve tried — and more than 800 other products — can be shipped to your door. Which is a godsend for those of us who prefer not to wear pants. #pajamasarelife Read on to see what we loved, get a discount, and enter to win some of my favourites.ย

Feeding a tween is tricky at the best of times, but when squash is part of dinner you have to admit you’re just pushing it. But NOT SO when Stonewall Kitchen’s Butternut Squash Risotto is on the menu! My tween and her younger bro finished it faster than you can say “squash is a terrible name for a vegetable”.

You do have to babysit it for 25 minutes — that’s the thing with risotto, low and slow and stir often — but the creamy and flavourful result is so worth it. I made it for a weekend lunch on a chilly day but it would be equally good for supper any day or as a side when company’s coming.

Frontier Soups’ Tortilla Soup Mixย was easy and delicious too. Just add salsa, chicken and broth and olรฉ! Juan’s your uncle. LOL. You can dump in a mess of tortilla chips (Xochitl’s Salted Corn Chips are the bomb) or use them to garnish like so.

That’s what the soup mix looks like โ†‘โ†‘.

Marich Chocolates’ English Toffee Caramels didn’t last long around here either. I found them a bit too sweet but their Milk and Dark Chocolate Nut Medley was so good, y’all. SO GOOD THAT I INHALED TWO PACKAGES BEFORE I COULD PHOTOGRAPH THEM. (At two separate times because it’s not like I have ZERO impulse control but ALMOST.)

And this Stonewall Kitchen Blueberry Scone Mix made the best scones I’ve ever tasted (better than The Scone Witch even, and that’s saying something). Thems is buttery and flakey and mmm mmm mmm. Now all I want to eat are carbs.

And if you really like blueberries like we do, serve them with some Stonewall Kitchen Wild Maine Blueberry Jam. (Ours is a mini size from the adorable Classic Sampler Collection.)

Some people have a liquor cabinet, others have a bar cart, we have a spot in the kitchen I like to call “booze corner.” (Classy, right?) Gourmet Trading sent us some Stonewall Kitchen Lemon Twist Olives in Vermouth to elevate our martini game and they are delicious! Tho I’m not sure what you do with the lemon rind stuffed in the middle. Do you eat it? Put it back in your drink? Casually dispose of it in a napkin? What do you do?

And finally, we tried al dente Pasta Company’s Spinach Fettuccine and Dave’s Gourmet Roasted Garlic and Basil Organic Pasta Sauce. The fettuccine cooked in three minutes (!) and had a mild, not-too-spinachy taste that three out of four of us didn’t mind and would even have again but my tween pushed away. I loved LOVED the chunky texture of the sauce and would be happy to eat a bowl of it on its own. Dave’s Gourmet also makes a Butternut Squash Pasta Sauce that I want to try.
