Free shipping makes this UK beauty box an affordable treat

I received July’s lookfantastic subscription box in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. This post also appears on A Year of Boxes

The lookfantastic Beauty Box is a subscription box from the UK that includes six premium beauty and skin care products and a copy of ELLE UK magazine each month. While the price is in line with other similar boxes (£15.00 or about $22 CAD/month and free international shipping), it has a luxurious feel about it that impressed me at first sight. It’s also my first one.

Lookfantastic the company is Europe’s top online premium beauty retailer. They carry over 22,000 products and offer free shipping to over 200 countries.

There are four subscription options for the Beauty Box (all prices in CAD):

  • Month-to-month, $22/box
  • 3-month subscription, $21.28/box
  • 6-month subscription, $20.18/box
  • 12-month subscription, $19.08/box

Shipping is included and I am here for it! 🙋‍♀️

Now let’s see what’s inside.

lookfantastic July 2019 brochure 2

Each box opens with a gorgeous 20-page brochure printed on matte, almost card-stock quality paper. This one features descriptions of each of the products in the box and tips on how to use them, a primer on hydration (the theme for July’s box) and hyaluronic acid (“sounds terrifying, but this ingredient is the secret to flawless skin”), and an interview with UK beauty/fashion/travel blogger Jamie Rockers of Beauty Rocks. The brochure was informative, interesting and well-written, which isn’t always the case with these types of inserts. (Sometimes they’ve got so many typos that I wonder how they got to publication.)

And then you’ve got the magazine. I love the small format to throw in my purse.

lookfantastic July 2019 Noabay illuminating micellar water and Aromatherapy Associates Revive Body Gel bright

Aromatherapy Associations Revive Body Gel ($17.62)

Infused with grapefruit, rosemary and juniper essential oils, [this gel] stimulates circulation and reduces fluid retention, leaving skin soft and supple. Perfect for the summer months, this quick-drying gel cools the skin upon application.

This smells like the spa — fresh, clean and expensive, LOL. It’s also wonderfully cool going on and absorbs into the skin really quickly. I’ve been using it on my arms and the backs of my hands and they feel so soft afterwards. Soft and expensive, LOL.

Naobay Illuminating Micellar Water ($16.15)

Purify, prepare and cleanse the skin with this natural micellar water. Enriched with green tea to protect against environmental pollution, and aloe vera to rehydrate and soothe — this micellar water is suitable for all skin types.

I was gifted a couple of bottles of a high-end, well-known micellar water that irritated my eyes so I passed it on to a friend. This one doesn’t bother my eyes, but I don’t find it especially effective. I had a hard time removing the eyeliner in this month’s box with the Noabay, where my usual makeup remover wipes took it off quite easily. I may end up gifting this one too. Smells nice ‘tho. And a great size.

lookfantastic July 2019 eyeko london FAT liquid eyeliner black

Eyeko London Fat Liquid Eyeliner, Black ($23.48)

A chubby felt pen eyeliner that creates thin to thick lines with control and precision. Enriched with conditioning Algae Extract, the smudge-proof, long-lasting liner glides effortlessly across the eyes for a sultry, defined finish that stays in place. Creates big, bold lines for an expert make-up look.

I’m rubbish at applying liquid eyeliner but I think the fat, Sharpie-like tip on this one makes me a little less so. Maybe? Or is that just wishful thinking? The tip makes a fine line but if you angle the wand on its side you’ll get a thicker result. Won’t budge.

lookfantastic July 2019 Elemis hydra-balance day cream

Elemis Hydra-Balance Day Cream ($28.05)

Formulated to provide continuous hydration, this day cream keeps the complexion soft and supple. Designed for normal to combination skin, this moisturizer contains meadowsweet extract to regulate oil production and hyaluronic acid to lock in moisture.

I’m leery of moisturizer because I worry it’s going to make me break out (apparently I’d rather have wrinkles than pimples) so I’ll have to get back to you on this one, if I even try it at all. But “ultra-light” and “regulates the appearance of oily skin” are right up my alley.

lookfantatic July 2019 GLOW makeup remover brightest

Glov On-the-Go Hydro Cleanser ($17.48)

Effortlessly cleanse skin without a cleanser. Utilizing micro technology, this cleansing glove contains star-shaped fibres up to 30 times thinner than a cotton pad, boasting antibacterial electrostatic properties that absorb makeup and dirt like a magnet.

More impressive than a cleanser without cleanser is the packaging, I think. It’s made from starch and breaks down in just 12 months. Is that not brilliant? All packaging should be so environmentally friendly! I just received one of these (albeit from a different brand) in another box so I’m interested to see how they compare. That one was $5, which is more in line with what I’d be willing to pay. But maybe you get many (many!) more uses out of this one. Time will tell.

lookfantastic July 2019 Gold Eye eye pads bright

Vitamasques Gold Eye Pads ($8.80)

Designed to plump and de-puff tired under eyes, these eye pads instantly hydrate and cool skin. Made with real gold extract to brighten and hyaluronic acid to plump and firm, these pads leave delicate skin surrounding the eyes, soothed and radiant.

And these I want to save for a friend since I don’t find my under eyes (sounds weird but let’s go with it) especially puffy. Tired, yes. Puffy, no. But they sound luxurious with the real gold extract and much-heralded hyaluronic acid.

lookfantastic July 2019 contents close up

And there you have July’s lookfantastic box. The packaging and the products are on the higher end and that Aromatherapy Associates Body Gel is a real stand-out, almost worth the price of the box alone. For $22 Canadian you’re looking at about $100 in product, which is still a solid value if you keep a couple and gift others. I’m curious to see how upcoming boxes compare.

What do you think of July’s lookfantastic Beauty Box? What would you like to see inside?

  1. I’ve been getting this box for almost a year now and it always impresses me. It has brands I don’t get in other subscription boxes and always more high end brands. Totally worth it!
