I received the pieces in this post in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
It’s World Mental Health Day and I’m frustrated. I’ve been in treatment for anxiety and depression for 20 years and for all that work, I’m still struggling. I’ve made some gains for sure (exhibit A: the fact that I’m talking about it here or anywhere) but I regularly beat myself up for getting worked up about things that I think most people wouldn’t give a second thought. For example, I’ve got two events coming up in the next month that I should be looking forward to — book-related events I’ve paid to attend — but the closer they get, the more dread I feel. It’s this downward spiral of “I’m not smart enough/funny enough/entertaining enough to be there” combined with “I need to lose 10 to 15 pounds by then or people are going to think I’ve totally let myself go and I’m going to hate every picture.” (My heart is pounding just writing this.) How does any of this relate to Foxy Originals‘ new collection? I’m getting to it.
One thing that helps take down the anxiety for a bit — both when I do it, and when I remind myself I’ve done it — is planning my outfit well in advance. Too many times I’ve only added to my stress by leaving it to the last minute and running out to find something to wear. (Half the time I end up spending too much money on something I don’t even love or see in pictures after and think ‘what was I thinking?’)
But this time I feel like I’m in good shape. I’ve got a couple of outfits I’ve recently worn to a few things and really like (including this leopard print skirt and dress). They’re comfortable to wear and I feel comfortable with how they look on me. And so I’ll have something to be excited about, I’m saving a couple of my favourite new pieces of jewellery to wear at the events. That’s where Foxy Originals comes in.
I’ve been a fan of the Toronto company’s Canadian-made jewellery for years, so I was thrilled (!) when they sent me a few of my favourite pieces from their new fall/winter collection. Foxy’s pieces manage to be on trend and classic at the same time, they’re lead-free and they won’t cost you the moon, so you can totally justify picking up a few new things as the seasons change.
All of the pieces here come in gold and silver, but I tend to gravitate to gold in the colder months so I picked the warmer metal. I love the chunky feel of the Rosie necklace and the toggle, pearl and heart are all working for me.
The Bailey earrings make a gorgeous pairing, but I’m not sure if they’ll be too much together. What do you think? I may wear the necklace one night and the earrings the other.
Speaking of sets, Foxy has a few new box sets. My favourite is the Good Karma Believe box set. You can wear the necklaces separate or layered together and the disc says “she believed she could so she did.” The black stone on the necklace and the earrings can be elegant or edgy, depending on your mood or outfit. And it comes in one of Foxy’s new black boxes with gold sprinkles. I love!
I often remember the saying, “What you think about grows” and hesitate to talk about my anxiety for fear it’ll only escalate, but acknowledging it and sharing it with you made me feel better. Thank you for reading.
Do you have any events coming up that you’re anxious about? What do you do to help relieve your anxiety?
