I received October’s Sweet Reads Box for review purposes. All opinions are my own.
I’ve been down in the dumps for a bit but I feel like I’m finally starting to shake it off, so herewith a reveal I’ve been wanting to share: the latest (and quite possibly the best yet) Sweet Reads Box. The monthly subscription box promises “me time delivered” with a new novel, a sweet treat, coffee or tea and a few other treats related to the story. October’s box marked the Canadian co’s second anniversary, so an extra surprise was included as well. They have the anniversary and we get the presents! I like where this is going.
Each Sweet Reads Box opens with a guide to the contents on one side and a quote tied to the novel on the other. For October, it’s a line from American author, Anita Diamant: “The more a daughter knows the details of her mother’s life, the stronger the daughter.”
I literally gasped when I saw October’s book.
The Nanny is the perfect novel for October. A complex thriller with twists that had us speeding through the novel to find out what really happened.
When Jocelyn was seven her nanny, Hannah, left unexpectedly causing a devastating loss. Thirty years later Jocelyn has returned home to England with her daughter Ruby to live with Jo’s mother, Lady Holt. Soon after arriving at Lake Hall estate a skull is found in the estate’s lake and the story takes off with all the women questioning everything they thought they knew about each other.
I ordered The Nanny after seeing it all over bookstagram and LOVED IT, and I’m really happy to have another copy to gift. EXCELLENT PICK, Sweet Reads Box! 🔥🔥🔥
Zingy Lemon & Ginger Tea • A novel set in England needs a great tea to enjoy with it. We chose this Lemon Ginger Tea as a wonderful compliment to a cool fall day.
My friend Dana says this tea is super lemony but ginger’s not my jam so this will go in the cupboard for guests.
Choco Hippies Biscuits • Lady Holt and Ruby bake cookies (or biscuits) in the story. You will love these British biscuits as an accompaniment to the tea.
Bonus: they’re gluten free! I don’t have a problem with gluten, but I’m glad subscribers who do will be able to enjoy them. Choco chip cookies nom nom.
Pill container • Pills are an important part of the plot. These convenient pill containers are great for your purse or pocket to carry medications or vitamins.
Super cute and handy too. I’m going to tuck a few aspirins inside and throw it in my purse.
Candle holder • (Some subscribers received heart-shaped candle holders but I’m glad I got this one as it’s more my style.) A large candlestick holder would be impractical to fit in the box. We found these charming candleholders that symbolize love. While there is a lot of love in this book, a lot of it is misguided.
Tea lights • Fall-scented tea lights are the perfect match for the candle holder. Maybe you could use them to set a Halloween atmosphere?
I love tea lights but I’m sensitive to scents — luckily these ones are okay in small (tea-light-sized) doses. 😉
Sweet Reads Box vinyl sticker • To celebrate our anniversary we have included this sticker, which will look great on your iPad, like the one Ruby uses to play games.
I’m really honoured to review Sweet Reads Box so I’m going to find a special spot for this sticker, somewhere where I can see it all the time. (Hmmm, I wonder if it will stick to a mug. I drink tea all day long.)
Wish bracelet • One of our all-time favourite items — the wish bracelet is a beautiful way to make a wish and wear your love of books. Our gift to you as we celebrate our second anniversary.
I recently bought a bunch of wish bracelets for gifts and giveaways — they make fantastic gift toppers or presents to pop in a card and say “thinking of you” and they’d be great in or instead of loot bags as well. I love this one, and I love to see Sweet Reads Box supporting Canadian makers where they can. (Sending lots of love, Christy!)
Pocket mirror • A cigarette case plays a prominent role in the story and we wanted something that could represent this. Also with Lady Holt’s obsessions with her looks, a pocket mirror made sense as something that she would always have close by.
I’m a cat lady so this is purrrfect for me. Sadly it’s also perfect for my daughter and my mom. We’ll see how long I can hang onto it before they get their paws on it.
October’s box came at just the right time; I needed that reminder to take some time for myself and the bookish treats were a pick-me-up. I love a good thriller, especially this time of year, and The Nanny is one I can’t wait to share with a friend.
Sweet Reads Box is available as a single box and by 3- and 6-month subscription. Single boxes are $58.99 CAD + $15 shipping Canada-wide. (Shipping is currently available in Canada only.)
November boxes are sold out, but December boxes and limited edition Christmas and Book Lovers Boxes are still available. They go super fast, so if you’re interested snap them up!
