I received GlobeIn’s Savvy Box in exchange for an honest review. This post also appears on A Year of Boxes.
It’s been a while since I’ve shared one of these! GlobeIn Artisan Box is a monthly subscription box featuring handmade, ethically sourced products from makers around the world. April’s Savvy Box honours Fashion Revolution Month, a movement to urge the fashion industry to do better after the 2013 collapse of a factory in Bangladesh that killed more than 1,100 people and injured more than 2,500.
“If you ask #whomademyclothes, we will answer. Every piece in your Artisan Box this month is accompanied by the story of the person who made it, offering a small glimpse into their life and their skills. With the efforts of Fair Trade values we hope to urge the fashion industry to create change and impact those who produce their favourite handmade products all over the world.” — GlobeIn
GlobeIn has a single subscription option, the Premium Box at $40/month (all prices in USD). Each one is approximately $70 in value and includes four to five handmade items from artists from around the world. Subscribers can also choose additional products to customize their box.
Shipping in the US is $10/month; shipping to Canada $22/month (your first box ships free); and international shipping is $25/month.
Moroccan Market Bag, Morocco ($50)
This beautiful bag is so versatile. It’s got a long handle drop so you can carry it comfortably from your shoulder when you’re out and about (not that we’re out and about much these days but things are starting to open up again) and it’s a great size to use at home for throw blankets, knitting supplies, fresh towels, slippers for guests — all kinds of things.
Copper Water Bottle, India ($30)
I don’t think I have a single water bottle that the kids haven’t swiped but I’m going to try to hang on to this one. It’s the work of four different artisans (one to shape it, another to polish it to a shine, and two to lacquer and finish it) and so, so pretty. I’ve never seen one like it.
Sophie Viscose Scarf, India ($25)
Even tho we don’t have air conditioning at home there are days in the summer when the house can feel a bit cool and I like to have something to throw around my shoulders. This scarf is perfect for that, and nice to throw in your purse or tie around the handle so you’ve got something handy to keep the sun off your neck or wrap around you in the grocery store (where the AC can make it feel like a freezer). I love the pattern and the colours to dress up a plain white tee or pair with a jean jacket. So nice!
Johanna Keychain, Nepal ($8)
It’s a little easier to spot your keys when they’re on a keychain like one. I love the colours, the felted balls and the size, but I’ll probably use it to clip on to the side of a purse to show it off, rather than use it for my keys. This would be adorable repurposed as a curtain tie or a bookmark.
GlobeIn’s Savvy Box might be my favourite. All of the items are useful, beautiful and just my style. It’s valued at $113.
