Five things

Happy Sunday, everybody! I hope you’re having a nice weekend. I wanted to pop in and share a few things before finishing up the last of August’s subscription box reviews. Most importantly, I didn’t want you to miss out on the chance to win this lovely dotty rim teapot and mug set from KARE Toronto. The giveaway ends tonight on Instagram. #gifted

What are you reading? I’ve been looking forward to Fredrik Backman’s Anxious People for months so I was thrilled when Simon & Schuster Canada sent me an advance copy but it’s been really slow going. It’s beautifully written and has lots of humour but so heart-wrenching too. I don’t like reading two books at a time but yesterday I started the new thriller You Can’t Catch Me to get a break. (And because Candice raved about it so much.) Do you often have a couple of books on the go, or do you prefer to see one to the end before beginning another? I’ll be sharing more thoughts on Anxious People on pub day (September 8).

Friday night we went to Barrhaven to pick up this uber-delicious chocolate banana cake with peanut butter frosting from Jennie Ivanovski at A Little Bit of Sugar. (I won Jennie’s giveaway on Instagram.) If you’re in the Ottawa area and looking for a special cake or sweet treat, we highly recommend. Look at Jennie’s apple pie! And her mermaid cake cones! Stunning!

Did you see this purr-fect pin in Sweet Reads Box‘s Cat Lover’s Box? I did an unboxing this week in my Instagram stories. (Sweet Reads Box sends me the monthly boxes and some limited editions for review but I ordered this one.) Dana and Dany have the full reveal in their feeds if you’d like to see. Would you like to see a blog post about it here too?

Last but not least, my daughter painted the bird house she and her dad built from the Kids Hygge Box. I love the colour Lily picked. (We call it Twitter blue.) Now how can we attract some feathered friends? It’s been a week and we haven’t seen any action. Birders, please share your secrets!

  1. Love love love that cake. TOOOOO pretty to cut into an it sounds delicious.
Am a reader of one book at a time and just finished a great crime/court room drama 604 pager – Guilty as Sin by Tami Hoag. With a book that large I need to stay focused or I will lose the characters. Cute cat pin and adore the Twitter Bird house. A little bird seed or a few peanuts might been seen as an invitation for habitation. As always enjoyed your posting and love the obvious skilled photography.
