Glossybox October 2020

I received October’s Glossybox in exchange for an honest review. This post also appears on A Year of Boxes.

Glossybox is a skincare and cosmetics subscription box that typically delivers five deluxe or full-size products for $21 USD that add up to at least $60 in value. In the spirit of the season of all things spooky (how does Halloween feel like 100 years ago already?) Glossybox conjured up two boxes designed to look like a book of spells — one named Midnight Fantasy and the one I received, Enchanted Spirit.

For enviable skin and extraordinary makeup, we brewed a coveted collection of both with ingredients that dazzle, amaze, and of course, delight! We want you to embrace the magic that beauty can make up feel every step of the routine beyond skincare, with results that’ll last long after the spell of a great regimen. — Glossybox

Glossybox offers four subscription options (all prices in USD):

  • monthly ($21/month, billed monthly)
  • 3 months ($58.50, paid upfront)
  • 6 months ($111, paid upfront)
  • 12 months ($210, paid upfront)

Shipping in the US is free and shipping to Canada is $5/box + any duties and customs fees.

Each Glossybox includes a one-page product guide that opens to full-colour photos and descriptions of the contents, where you can find them and the retail price, as well as tips on how to best apply them. Like September’s box, October’s came with a $50 discount for Bright Cellars’ wine subscription service (available in the US only).

Generation Clay Ultra Violent Brightening Purple Clay Mask

Packed with superfruit, davidson plum, desert lime, bilberry, and aloe vera, this gentle version of skin-exfoliating alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) rejuvenates dull, tired skin while lightening dark circles and pigmentation. ($14.44)

I use a charcoal mask a few times a week that looks and feels very like this one, only this one goes on purple (how fun! And matches the box!) and tingles a bit before turning grey. I love how my skin feels after and maybe it looks brighter? I don’t know if I’m thinking it’s brighter because it’s supposed to be or if it really is. I trust my usual mask for helping to keep my skin clear and haven’t had any flare-ups since I’ve been using this one. Bonus points for vegan and cruelty free.

Earth Harbor Aurora Superfood Luminous Ampoule

Full of sea greens, cannabis sativa hemp oil, and grapeseed oil, this therapeutic serum will energize and soothe the skin while inducing dewy luminance. Say goodbye to redness, dullness and irritation! ($32)

I’ve been trying a new face oil from another brand so I haven’t used this serum but I’ve used an Earth Harbor face mask and it’s soooo nice.

Ciaté London Loose Translucent Setting Powder

Finish off your makeup masterpiece with this finely milled setting powder. Ultra-blendable and lightweight, buff effortlessly onto your skin without any cakiness or creases for long-lasting wear. ($18.98)

I rarely use setting powder so I’ll probably gift this. You don’t see it in Glossybox very often so I would have kept it if I’d needed it.

Onå New York Spotlight Radiant Glow Gel Mask

Formulated with plant ingredients native to Russia and North East Asia, this refining hydrogel mask will even out the complexion, rid of impurities, and restore a youthful glow. Its comfortable fit and non-slip quality makes it perfect for anyone on the move! ($9)

And a second mask! The packaging is so cute and I have a girlfriend who’s a dead-ringer for the woman in the illustration so I feel like she has to have it.

KVD Vegan Beauty Studded Kiss Creme Lipstick (Lovecraft)

This vegan and cruelty-free lipstick will make you feel bold and stunning — just like its studded packaging. Its creamy, cushiony, and highly pigmented formula will give your lips the treatment they deserve. ($14)

I love everything about this lipstick. The colour is gorgeous, a bit brighter than what I’m used to wearing but so pretty coming up to the holidays. I don’t think I’ve ever finished a lipstick before it expired so this deluxe mini size is perfect. And the studded case is so chic!

October’s Glossybox is valued at $88.42. The box design is really creative and perfect for Halloween (tho I still prefer the pale pink ones you usually get) and I love the mix of products. Yes I’m gifting a couple but honestly that’s almost as much fun as using them myself, especially when they’re a perfect fit. They’re happy, I’m happy, nothing is wasted and everybody wins! I’m excited to see what November’s box has in store. In the meantime, if you’d like to see what’s inside the Glossybox advent calendar, make sure to check out A Year of Boxes on Instagram — Sarah’s revealing each day’s surprise in her stories.

The packaging alone is making me smile. What a beautiful set! Some luxury for a blah time of the year.

Love the bookish packaging too, CC! I saw board games earlier today with the same sort of feel and would have snapped them up if we didn’t have other editions already. ❤️❤️
