I received October’s Lip Monthly in exchange for an honest review. This post also appears on A Year of Boxes.
Lip Monthly is a US subscription service that delivers a variety of full-size lip products + one bonus cosmetic in a reusable pouch every month. Subscriptions start at $12.95 USD/month and each pouch is valued at $50+. September’s hasn’t arrived but I’ve got October’s here for you.
Lip Monthly offers four subscriptions (all prices in USD and all products full-sized):
- Monthly subscription: $12.95 for 4 to 5 products/month
- Lip Monthly Plus: $19.95 for 7 products/month
- 3-Month subscription: $38.85 for 4 to 5 products/month
- Annual subscription: $155.40 for 4 to 5 products/month
Shipping is free in the US; $3.99 to Canada and the UK; and $4.99 to Australia.
Subscribers get a mixed bag of products every month so mine may be different than other October ones you’ve seen. The design on this one says spring to me instead of fall but I do like pink. That said, the pouch isn’t great quality and if you’ve subscribed for a while you’ve probably accumulated more than you can use. I wouldn’t mind if Lip Monthly omitted it or made it optional. What do you think? Would you like to see the pouch or you wouldn’t miss it?
Bellapierre Kiss Proof Lip Crème (Hothead)
Kiss Proof Lip Crèmes are full coverage, high impact liquid lipsticks that last for hours without the need to touch up. Their creamy formula goes on smoothly and dries to a beautiful matte finish in a snap! ($20)
My teen and I both tested this month’s lipsticks. We both love the colour of this one but I found it terribly dry, sticky, and really difficult to remove. My teeny bopper, however, had zero complaints. And the colour flattered her skin tone more than mine. (Hers is fair with a blue undertone, mine is fair with yellow.) If you’re looking for a matte lipstick with great staying power, this certainly fits the bill. It didn’t work for me but my daughter’s more than happy to use it.
Give Them La La Beauty Matte Lipstick (Shade)
If a matte lipstick and a hydrating gloss had a baby, it would be our luxury cream formula! This irresistible, cushioned formula applies creamy and high pigmented for the most beautiful full coverage look! Non drying, feels like silk, you’ll barely notice it’s there! Cruelty free. ($16)
I prefer a satin finish but here with have another matte. I like this formula much better and the softer colour works for both of us. It’s a peachy pink with maybe a hint of lilac, kind of difficult to describe. Also stays put but not so stubborn to remove. Fun fact: the co was founded by Lala Kent from Vanderpump Rules.
Doucce Cosmetics Lip Pencil Definer (Estella)
Easy application, long lasting, and richly pigmented, the Lip Definer is the first step in any lipstick routine to enhance the lip shape and prolong wearability. The rich formula glides on smoothly without any tugging or pulling and will not smear or budge once set.($20)
In the light it looks peach but this lip pencil is more like a soft plum — a colour I never wear so I’ll be gifting this one. IMHO it would make sense to include a lip liner that matches at least one of the lipsticks.
Jersey Shore Cosmetics Moisture Rich Hydrating Balm (Juicy Strawberry)
Jersey Shore Cosmetics Moisture-rich Hydrating Balms will have your lips feeling hydrated and moisturized instantly. Formulated using all-natural ingredients, bringing extreme hydration to your skin. Observe softer skin in seconds. Our balms may be used on all parts of the body. Use on chapped lips, cheeks, fingers, and noses. Our balms are 100% natural and free of parabens, phthalates, artificial flavors, and petrochemicals. Gluten-free. Petroleum-free. Cruelty-free. ($10)
The Juicy Strawberry smells great but not overpowering, has zero taste and feels really moisturizing. No issues with this one. I don’t think I’d pay $10 for it (apparently I did find an issue ha ha) but I’m glad to see it in the box, especially since two of the products were a miss for me.
I was surprised to see four lip products in October’s pouch since Lip Monthly typically includes three and another cosmetic. That mix might have worked out better for me but it’s the luck of the draw so you get what you get. And really, for $12.95/month I don’t expect every product to be a winner. Between my teen and I we’re batting three for four in this one, which is still a really good deal. October’s Lip Monthly is valued at $66.
