Hygge in a Box: Summer Edition 2021 πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

Happy Saturday, everybody! I hope you’ve got some time this weekend to enjoy some of summer’s simple pleasures, whether that’s a bike ride along your favourite path, reading a great book under a shady tree or shucking fresh corn on the cob and feasting al fresco. 🀀 All hygge goodness! The fellas have gone for a walk (after much moaning and groaning on my 12-year-old’s part — why does everything have to be a fight? 😩) and my daughter’s at camp for a few more days so I’m going to enjoy the quiet and my tea and catch you up. Hygge in a Box debuted a gorgeous new look with its Summer Edition, along with all kinds of wonderful products and ideas for making the most of the season. I think you’ll love it. Come take a look with me.

If you’re new to Hygge in a Box, it’s a quarterly Canadian subscription box designed to bring you cozy hygge moments year-round. Each of the seasonal boxes is available in small and large sizes (4 to 6 items and 7 to 9 items respectively), features most-if-not-all Canadian products and ships to Canada and the US. Themed limited edition boxes are also released throughout the year, like the Hello Summer Hygge in a Box we saw last month.

Each box comes with a product card with all kinds of seasonal hygge ideas, notes on the contents (in italics below), exclusive subscriber discounts and a hello from Hygge in a Box founders Jill and Lisa, two sisters based in Winnipeg, MB. (Hi Jill! πŸ‘‹ Hi Lisa! πŸ‘‹)

Life’s A Beach Candle (Campy Home) Every candle is made with quality in mind. The maker uses eco soy wax and an untreated lead-free cotton wick which allows for a cleaner non-toxic burn. Each fragrance is body safe and phthalate free. Enjoy the fruity smelling candle featuring notes of cranberry and peach. Its aroma will have you feeling like you are relaxing on a beach somewhere. Based in Ottawa, ON.

I’ve been using Campy candles for years (years!) so I was thrilled to see this one — fruity and fabulous and so perfect for summer! I highly recommend their Breakfast in Bed and A Late Night ones too. Oh! And their new citronella ones, Minding Your Own Buzzness. I stocked up on those at the beginning of the summer and they’re fantastic for keeping the bugs at bay.

People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry Reading is the perfect refuge, especially in these difficult times. People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry is about two best friends, ten summer trips and one last chance to fall in love. The epitome of a great beach read. It is a #1 New York Times bestseller and one of the most anticipated summer books of 2021.

*SWOON* Such a great pick! I fell in love with Alex and Poppy and think you will too. Easily one of my favourite books this year!

Candy Box (Boxed Bites) Modern charcuterie candy boxes, how delightful. Nordic countries are crazy for candy and this summer-themed collection is the perfect take along to the beach or anywhere you go. Each packed with flavour and pure cuteness. Bet you can’t eat just one! From Montreal, Quebec.

Are these not the cutest gummies ever? (Yes that’s an avocado and a flamingo! There’s a crab, a cactus and a popsicle too.) Some sweet, some sour, all super fresh.

Margarita Poppers (Baltic Bros) Located in Winnipeg, MB the Baltic Brothers are fourth-generation infusionists. These alcohol-free cocktail poppers are the easiest way to make cocktails. They are like bath bombs but for your drink. When dropped into sparkling water cocktail bombs fizz and create a delicious cocktail or mocktail. Pop in soda, add spirit (optional), stir and fizz.

And how fun are these? A marg in a minute and a great party trick too. I’ve tried a similar product from another Canadian co but hadn’t seen these. I feel like this might be the weekend to plop plop fizz fizz.

Gemstone Bracelet (The Elephant Designs) Based in Winnipeg, MB makers Stacy and Diana wanted to come up with a way to give back to elephants and other animals, all while doing something they enjoy. They choose to work with semi-precious stones due to their spiritual energy and healing benefits. Each bracelet is smudged with sage for spiritual cleansing. A percentage of every sale gets donated to an animal sanctuary. Something to feel hygge about.

Hygge in a Box has introduced me to so many wonderful products and companies including several that give back. I love how Stacy and Diana started their business because they wanted to make a difference and the bracelet is gorgeous. It’s got a great weight to it that feels grounding and the stones are cool to the touch. Love the colours too.

Lightweight Cream Scarf (Leo & Bea) Meik Wiking, author of The Little Book of Hygge, says “nail Danish street style by day with dark jeans, a white tee, and a statement scarf.” This 100% cotton gauze lightweight scarf is the perfect accessory for any occasion and any time of the year. Leo & Bea is based in Vancouver, BC and we love how the business is named after the grandparents of the owner.

So soft, so chic, so versatile! I love how this scarf keeps the sun off my shoulders and effortlessly elevates my summer basics. I’ll be using it year-round.

Hygge Tote (Hygge in a Box) HELLO HYGGE. A custom hygge tote to take along when you go to the park, beach, farmer’s market or anywhere you go! Made from Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified 100% organic cotton printed with water-based inks and of course is reusable.

I folded the tote here for the picture but really it’s more than twice the size and says HELLO HYGGE. Hello I love it! Roomy and sturdy for all kinds of things and light and easy enough to keep in your purse so you’ve always got it when you need it.

Chill Out Soothing Spray (K’Pure) This aloe and essential oil spray will give you instant relief from windburn or sun exposure. Feeling stressed? A few spritzes and some deep breathing will help calm you, inside and out. For indoorsy types, use Chill Out daily year-round as a hydrating facial toner ahead of your serums. The maker is a busy mother of four and always ensures that products are handmade cruelty free with the strictest attention to quality control and detail. From Mission, BC.

An exclusive item for quarterly box subscribers (all subscribers get a bonus item in every box πŸ™Œ) — refreshing, smells lovely, and soothing too. One of my new favourite mists!

Recipe Β· Grammie’s Dill Pickles These family favourite fermented pickles rely on good old-fashioned salt and beneficial bacteria to make things happen. The best part about a fermented pickle recipe? It’s easy to make as little (or as much) as you need, and they are packed-full of probiotic benefit. Go to a farmers market to pick up your ingredients, harvest what you may be growing and choose organic when you can. Growing up we made these with our grammie and our parents.

Last but not least, a delicious-looking recipe! (I don’t like pickles but that picture makes me think I might need to give them another shake.) Jill and Lisa include a recipe for every box, often a family favourite. Pickles are a staple in our house and these seems pretty easy to make. Must try before the summer is out.

And that’s a wrap on the summer Hygge in a Box, once again filled with all kinds of wonderful ideas and items for enjoying all of the hygge moments the season has to offer (and maybe my favourite one so far).

Fall’s Hygge in a Box is now available to order, along with the next limited edition box, September’s The Mindful Hygge Box (Essentials) and The Mindful Hygge Box (Deluxe). You’ll find Hygge in a Box on Instagram and on Facebook.

How are you enjoying some hygge this summer?
