An all-natural candle subscription service: Vellabox December 2021

We’ve reached that point in January where I start to feel embarrassed that we still have our Christmas tree up and yet apparently not enough to do anything about it (some years we’ve kept it ’til Valentine’s Day πŸ˜‚πŸ˜¬). As much as I love the decorations and the twinkly lights, it’s scent of the tree I’ll miss the most. Tho how much of that is tree and how much is candle is hard to tell. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ I love a good woodsy burn! And the candle subscription service Vellabox absolutely nailed it with their fresh and woodsy pick for December.

If you’re new to Vellabox, it’s a monthly subscription service that delivers all-natural, artisanal, paraffin- and paraben-free candles to your door, plus a surprise gift from a natural lifestyle brand. Subscribers complete a “scent profile” to indicate their preferences — citrus, floral, fresh, herbal, woodsy, sweet and spice — and receive candles chosen with their favourite fragrances in mind. All candles are made with 100% soy or coconut wax, top-of-the-line fragrance oils and lead-free cotton wicks.

Vellabox offers three subscription options:

The Lucerna Box Β· One 4 oz candle (40+ hours burn time) + one surprise gift from $12/month

The Ignis Box Β· One 8 oz candle (80+ hours burn time) + one surprise gift from $22/month

The Vivere Box Β· One 12 oz candle (100+ hours total burn time) + one surprise gift from $29/month

Monthly, 6-month and 12-month subscriptions are available. Shipping is free on all US orders and shipping to Canada is $5/month.

My Vellabox is December’s Vivere Box.

Home — the story of who we are and a collection of all we love.

Each candle arrives in a reusable cloth drawstring bag, packed together with the surprise bonus gift (for December it’s an all-natural body butter) and a product card with information about the month’s contents and makers and exclusive discounts. New to the card for the December are QR codes for each scent that you can scan to repurchase.

Vellabox features a different candle maker each month. For December subscribers received one of three candles from California-based Earthside Candle Co.

December’s pick for fresh and woodsy lovers is this amazing one called Mistletoe with notes of eucalyptus, fir, pine, cedar and patchouli.

The spirit of the holidays all bottled up into one jar. Let the spirit of the winter woods fall around you as the wax melts down.

The 16 oz candle is new for December and I love the larger size — more to love!

The bonus item in December’s box is a generous sample of Nostalgia Moisturizing Body Butter from ILERA Apothecary in Detroit, Michigan.

Thicker than a lotion, this body butter goes a long way. It is powerful enough to use on eczema and gentle enough to use on babies. It’s multifunctional and can be used to moisturize your skin, hair, lips, or even relieve a sun burn! Inspired by the warm forest of Madagascar, Nostalgia features royal oils including sandalwood, patchouli, and vanilla.

I love that this body butter is so versatile and suitable for a variety of climates but the fragrance makes it a miss for me. To my nose it’s a pungent, powdery musk — which is fine if that’s what you like but it’s not my jam.

That’s December’s Vellabox, my friends. What do you think? Are you a subscriber? Did you get Mistletoe or another candle? I’d love to hear in the comments. And if you’re thinking about subscribing, Vellabox is offering a free candle essentials kit with a beautiful candle snuffer, wick trimmer and bottle of matches with new 6- and 12-month subscriptions. (No matches for Canadian customers since shipping those isn’t permitted.)

January’s Vellabox is en route so hopefully I’ll have that for you soon. In the meantime, stay cozy!

I received December’s Vellabox in exchange for an honest review.

  1. Beautifully packaged in the bag and the candle presentation and packing is understated and lovely. Who doesn’t love a bonus product! Lovely box!

  2. Your blog makes me want to light up a Christmas tree scented candle and this very wintery day. Too much of a eucalyptus scent can easily send my innards into a turmoil, but bring on the fir, pine, sandalwood and vanilla. If Bergamot were one of their offered scents I order a case of them. As always, love your commentary, your fun photos and Valentine’s Day is still a ways off, s no rush to get the tree out the door.
