Thomas Allen & Son sent me Keep Going in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
I don’t want to tell you how many times I’ve thought of chucking my blog but it’s up there. For all of the usual reasons: My writing sucks; it’s too hard; I’m not funny or interesting or loveable enough; I should post more often; no one reads it; my pictures are crap; and so on. All of which I believe to different degrees depending on the day. Some days I’m even happy with a post or a particular picture, then two days later I think it sucks. But I keep going. And some books really help. Like this month’s new one from Austin Kleon, Keep Going: 10 Ways to Stay Creative in Good Times and Bad. Abrams Books sent me a copy of Craft A Life You Love in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own and from the heart.
As someone who frequently struggles with writer’s block, I’m always looking for new ways to get those creative juices flowing. (Unless they involve eating bugs. I don’t know why they would, but there I draw the line.) So I was excited to get an early copy of Amy Tangerine’s Craft A Life You Love: Infusing Creativity, Fun and Intention Into Your Everyday. Available today, it’s the newly updated version of her 2017 book of the same name (which I hadn’t read). This one includes 28 exercises (three more than the earlier book) around making time for the things that bring you joy, embracing your weird and how to be creative every day, plus a new chapter on discovering and cultivating your creative passions. Amy is known for turning her sewing hobby into an award-winning t-shirt line and her love of scrapbooking into a full-time business, as well as her online creative workshops and YouTube videos. In Craft A Life You Love, she shares some of her personal and professional struggles and the lessons, habits and tools that have helped her overcome them. Positive (but not sickening) and practical (but not simplistic), it’s a workbook I’m really enjoying working through, and think you will too. (And there’s nothing in it about eating bugs.) Thursday Plantation Canada sent me some samples to try free of charge, but all opinions are still my own.
I’ve been reading a lot about self-care in the blogosphere over the past week or so and feel like I’m getting better about identifying (and maybe even embracing) what fills my cup (as uber cheesy as that sounds). Making something tangible with my own hands is huge for me. I was elated by how well these turned out and how much I enjoyed the process. If you’re a maker or think you might be one, show yourself some love with a sweet DIY you can keep for yourself or gift to family and friends. Valentine’s Day may be a few weeks away yet, but love is in the air with this super cute and good-smelling soap. Continue reading “DIY valentine soap + A giveaway!”
