Whether you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day at a posh restaurant with a tall drink of water or at home with your cats and a tall bottle of red, there’s no better day to treat yourself to your heart’s desire. Even if it’s just a little something to say to yourself, “Self, you are loved.” Here are some of my favourite little sumthin’ sumthins for Valentine’s Day — all treats you can pick up last minute or order online for a delightful delivery later in the week. Love is all around but some of the Valentine-themed gifts won’t be around forever. … Be your own Valentine: small gift ideas for your big heart + A giveaway ❤️
For Christmas I like to treat my girlfriends to a little luxury — not necessarily something expensive, but something they wouldn’t buy themselves. With that in mind, here’s my gift guide for girlfriends. (And also me: I love everything here for me!) The gifts range from $8 to $105 and are all available online. … A gift guide for girlfriends. (Also me. I love everything here too.)
I don’t have the patience to shop WINNERS for clothes but when it comes to stand-out accessories, well I’ve got all the time in the world. This sweet bag said take me home when I spied it in store last weekend for $9.99 (regular price!). But before you run out to try to snag one of your own, here’s four other things from this week. … Five things
If you’re looking for something to read this summer and you haven’t already read it (or liked it so much you want to read it again), maybe you’d like to pick up a copy of The Light Between Oceans by M. L. Stedman. The publisher is hosting a read-a-long starting July 8 in advance of the movie version coming out in September. (They sent me a copy of the book to review and tell you about.) I can’t wait to get into it, but of course I will. Okay I did read the first couple of pages. But I promise I’ll wait on the rest and we can read along together. Here’s four other things from the past little while. … Five things on a Monday
I know most of you don’t treat yourself as often as you should, so I’ve put together a selection of some of my favourite things that I’m going to send to one of you. “But it’s not even my birthday!” you say. Who says it has to be? You deserve a pick me up. And making one of you happy will make me happy. I’ve had a purple cloud hanging over my head since Prince passed away and keep watching videos of his performances. It’s not making me feel any better. But treating one of you will. … These are a few of my favourite things + A giveaway!
Ahhh, Fall. The perfect time to curl up with a good book, a hot beverage and chocolate bar. Even if that’s just 20 minutes after the kids have finally fallen asleep and the dishes are done and the email’s answered and that sticky patch is scrubbed off the floor (what was that sticky patch?) and you can barely keep your eyes open but dammit, you’re going to get some time to yourself. And then maybe finding the book so good you stay up way too late reading and the morning comes too damn early and you curse yourself for not going to sleep earlier, knowing you’ll do it all over again. Maybe tonight. Maybe with some of my Fall faves!
That’s right everybody, it’s giveaway time! One lucky reader is going to win three of my favourite Fall luxuries: maple sugar DAVIDsTEA, a bar of Camino (fair-trade! organic! kosher! gluten free!) milk chocolate and the fantastic new sequel to The Rosie Project, Graeme Simsion’s The Rosie Effect.
You don’t need to read The Rosie Project to get The Rosie Effect, ‘tho it’ll help you understand and empathize with the main characters so you might want to start with that first. I wanted each page of The Rosie Effect to be a surprise so I never read a summary, but you can read one here from Chapters (where I ordered it for 50% off). If you could see the bags under my eyes you’d know I couldn’t put it down. I stayed up late several nights to finish it and miss the characters already.
The maple sugar tea is a recent discovery; it’s smooth and sweet (but not too sweet!) and smells divine. It goes great with the Camino milk chocolate (my all-time fave!) and the fair trade cancels out the calories, so enjoy it guilt free!

Good luck everybody! Can’t wait to hear about some of your Fall faves!
This is not a sponsored post. I just wanted to share some of my favourite luxuries with you!
How was your week, everybody? My guys have been away visiting family for half of it so mine’s been quiet. In a good way, ‘tho. I’ve done a little reading, a little running, a little cleaning (too little) and a lotta sleeping. Oh! And a little window shopping yesterday at The Drake General Store, which opened in Ottawa a few weeks ago. Have you been to the ones in Toronto or browsed online? So many carefully curated finds, from housewares and accessories to kids’ toys and gifts. And some unique Canadiana too.
I’m crushing on the cactus wallpaper, among a dozen other things. Wouldn’t it look fab in a powder room or an office?
I’ve done next-to-no back-to-school shopping, but I did pick up these cute Old Navy slip-on sneakers for my daughter. Do you have any shopping to do? How’s it coming along?
The Farmers market was ridiculously crowded today, but I standing in line for some of these tomatoes was well worth the wait. My favourite time of year is just around the corner: apple season!
And look who opened a second location near me! DAVIDsTEA! Are you a tea drinker? What do you drink?
